  • B.Tech or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering

What the work is really like

  • Split between desk and shop floor. You will spend real time where things are made.
  • Project cycles are long compared with software — you may work on one product for a year.
  • Plant locations are often outside major cities, which is a genuine lifestyle consideration.

  • Entry salaries are markedly lower than in software, which drives many capable mechanical graduates away from the field.
  • Progression can be slower in traditional manufacturing.
  • Roles concentrate in specific industrial belts, so relocation is usually part of the deal.
